Spinning on my tippy toes

Idiot grin playing my lips

Tossing my head from side to side

(I’m so happy)

The fool look stays

Even as I laugh

At me.

All rise.

The autumn leaves are shedding.

I can never read a poem about spinning without thinking of the Richard Brautigan poem, “Boo, Forever.” It is one of my all-time favorite love poems.

Spinning like a ghost
on the bottom of a
top,
I’m haunted by all
the space that I
will live without
you
